Aaron's blood type is B, so he can receive a kidney from someone with a B or O blood type. This makes matching, whether deceased or living donor, a much more difficult task, and this is why finding a living donor is so important.
If Aaron has a willing donor who isn't a direct match, the hospital can check their database to see if the Paired Program is a fit. With this option, Aaron's donor would give to another patient, and that other patient's donor would give to Aaron.
This Program is very similar to the Paired Program but involves more patients and their donors. Like the Paired Program, Aaron's donor does not have to be a direct match - just someone willing to donate on his behalf.
In this program, Aaron's donor donates on his behalf at a time that is convenient for them. Aaron would then receive a voucher to receive a kidney from a living donor. This is ideal if the donor is not a direct match or if they are a match but a better match is possible.
